Sexual health and functioning
Women’s Mental Health Associates specializes in improving the well-being of women and couples coping with sexual difficulties or dissatisfaction related to communication problems in relationships; pregnancy and childbirth issues; fertility problems; menopause; cancer (breast, gynecological, colon, etc.); pelvic pain (Vulvodynia, Vestibulitis, Interstitial Cystitis, etc.); other chronic medical conditions (back pain, Multiple Sclerosis, herpes, etc); and past trauma. Providers work with individuals, couples, and groups, and routinely offer workshops to patients and health care providers on sexual health issues. Treatment may focus on:
- Low desire
- Decreased sexual arousal
- Inorgasmia or difficulty climaxing
- Vaginismus – vaginal spasms
- Dyspareunia – painful intercourse
- Reducing pelvic pain
- Post-cancer treatment sexual issues
- Post-partum sexual pain or decreased desire
- Restoring sexual functioning and satisfaction
- Treatment of anxiety associated with sexual activity
- Relationship issues affecting sexual satisfaction
- Communication skills with partners and healthcare providers about sexual issues
- Relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety and pelvic floor bracing
- Trauma-related sexual problems
- Improving self-esteem and body image issues related to sexual health
- Sexual health after the diagnosis of herpes, HPV, and other sexually-transmitted conditions
